Richard has lived in Austin since 1990 when he moved here to from the Houston area to complete his bachelor's degree. After completing his degree in Radio/TV/Film from The University of Texas in 1992, he worked in the audio and video production industry for several years until hopping on the tech wave in 1999 by starting a new career with IBM.
Tired of being overweight, lethargic and out of shape, Richard started running that same year and dropped nearly 40 pounds and ran his first 5K – the Chuy's Hot to Trot 5K in Austin. That's when he found his competitive streak (because that run nearly killed him) and began running more seriously and has been a competitive long distance runner since about 2003. Richard has run just about every distance from 3K to marathon distances, including road racing, off-road racing and running across the Grand Canyon . He's also been a marathon coach and has participated in many of the area's various training programs for new and experienced runners.
From all that training and racing, Richard has experienced pretty much every type of injury out there and has considered massage therapy an integral part of injury rehab and prevention. He was a client of Therapy Central's for a few years before putting what he learned firsthand to work on many of the runners he was coaching. That lead to his decision to head back to school to pursue his license in massage therapy.
Richard has now come full circle and is back at Therapy Central, only this time as a licensed massage therapist and has extended his education by also receiving additional training from Ken and Susan over the past several years.
