Now this bear has the right idea! She must have had a tough practice,
game or long run!
This might be your reaction the 1st
time you do this but the results are worth it! Thomas is actually doing the
ice baths as part of his rehab for a low back injury. He does them after his
exercise routine to flush his muscles of toxins and reduce any inflamation in
his legs, glutes and low back. Thanks for the pics Thomas!
The reason it is so important to take ice baths after tough games, practices
or long runs is to flush all of the lactic acid and metabolic waste from your
legs which will greatly reduce your muscle soreness. Beyond the obvious, why
is that so important? Because if you are sore you will get stiff and tight to
guard against pain. It's what your body is designed to do. If are stiff and
tight the muscles and fascial tissue shortens and the next time you add speed
and torque you are MUCH more likely to be injured. Through the years we have
been told by numerous athletes that the best piece of advice we gave them about
injury prevention and enhanced athletic performance was to do ICE BATHS!
The pictures of Stephanie above show the amount of ice from an ice maker in
a home freezer. You may need more ice than that. Stop by the local convenience
store and pick up an additional 1, 2 or 3 bags, depending on how hard you worked,
how sore you are or know you'll be!
